SHRINE / Shrine of Internet
In the digital age, we don’t ask our priest for
guidance, but Google. In many ways, the Internet
has become a deity, that has many similarities to
a God. The smartphone is the rosary of this new
religion, it is the tool we use to pray, to
communicate with the Internet. The shrine is the
place where dead smartphones can be put to
rest, where their sacrifice in the name of the new
God can be honoured. The white circle, which is
painted on them, is the symbol of this new
religion: as wolves howl at the full moon, the
gesture itself carries a vague mystical feeling,
without actually representing anything: the gesture
itself is empty, which on one hand is shallow,
on the other hand is indefinitely deep: it can be
filled by every individual themselves.
